Exhibition
The Collection, the permanent exhibition, is made up of
artifacts from all over the world. More than 2000 objects are on
display. The spiritual story behind the objects is also told. This
approach has been taken because spirituality is the essence of the
museum collection, and spirituality is the element that binds
cultures together.
Wereldmuseum has a number of major sub-collections. The museum's
world-famous Oceania collection is given more space in the new
lay-out. Special features of the permanent collection are the open
displays, which include dozens of ancestor figures from the
Moluccas and Papua New Guinea.
Thanks to several recent loans, the Wereldmuseum's Tibet and
Japan collections are now unique in Europe. The display of special
ritual objects associated with Japan's esoteric Shingon and Tendai
Buddhism distinguishes Wereldmuseum from other museums around the
world.
Guided tours
An audio tour is available for individual visitors. There are
three versions: for adults, for teenagers and for children. The
tour for adults is also available in English. Key objects from the
various cultural regions are discussed in depth in this audio tour.
The audio equipment gives you your own personal, virtual guide.
Every Sunday afternoon at 13.00, the museum conducts a
continuous guided tour for adults. For children there is a special
tour at 15.00. These tours are free.
Guided tours for groups
Special guided tours of either the special exhibition or the
permanent collection are organized for groups of up to 15 persons.
A tour, with one guide, lasts one hour and costs € 75. This does
not include the cost of admission.
